Charlotte Marshall makes her presence known
like a “Storm trooper in stilettos” with her EP Bootleg Liquor. The opener “Bootleg
Liquor,” oozes a New Orleans swagger and sass. You can hear Charlotte’s
voice have an imperial command on the music. The swinging sax solo just screams.
“Who do you Boom Boom?” is a late
evening blues song, in which Charlotte and the 45s bring to life. There is a
hint of John Lee Hooker and Willie Dixon’s influence. “Dig my Love” a 60s soul styled ballad, could
fit easily among classics like “Yesterday, Yester you, Yester me.” Charlotte
has a presence and power in her voice that is so raw, guttural, and authentic. Charlotte Marshall and the 45s are as
tight as a snare drum and their music is cooking too.
